The Alfred Toepfer Prize for Agriculture, Forestry and Nature Conservation will be presented by the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F.V.S. throughout Europe as of the year 2008 in recognition of innovative and exemplary approaches in the fields of Nature Protection, Agriculture and Forestry and the sciences associated with them. The achievements recognised by the prize should as a rule have taken place within the past five years. The prize is intended to support, and if possible continue to promote, future efforts of the prize winners.
Beyond this, the prize is to raise public awareness of the scientific and practical achievements and enhance insights into the connection between scientific progress, practical innovation and the development of rural areas.
The prize will be awarded annually, initially on a rotating basis, and after a pilot phase with an interdisciplinary profile.
The prize is currently endowed with € 25,000. As a rule it will be bestowed upon one prize winner. Applications for the prize will not be considered.
